⚠️ Explanation (Spoiler)

In the true crime series “Cold Case Files: DNA Speaks,” the chilling case of the double murder of Lliana Adank and Eric Goldstrand is meticulously explored. The young couple, both teenagers, met a tragic end in 1977 after being attacked and fatally shot, with Lliana also being sexually assaulted.

Lliana Adank and Eric Goldstrand were just two normal teenagers from North Eugene High School who had ventured out for a day of fishing and a picnic at Fall Creek. Lliana lived with her loving adoptive parents and five step-siblings, while Eric resided with his parents and his brother Daniel.

The murderer responsible for this heinous crime managed to evade capture for an astonishing forty-four years until new advancements in DNA technology shed light on the case. Ronald Albert Shroy, who was twenty-three at the time of the attack, emerged as the prime suspect. Shroy, a local resident of Lane County, had relocated to Mesa, Arizona, in 2008. Through re-examining evidence from the crime scene using cutting-edge technology, investigators were able to identify Shroy as the killer. Interestingly, the analysis even provided a visual representation of the murderer and led to DNA matches.

As authorities closed in on Shroy, a dramatic turn of events occurred. Police were summoned to a disturbance at Shroy’s residence, where they discovered that he had engaged in a physical altercation with his younger brother Daniel. Tragically, before the police could intervene, Ronald Shroy took his own life by shooting himself in the head. This act deprived the families of Lliana and Eric of the closure of a formal trial and the opportunity to truly understand Shroy’s motivations.

The suicide of Ronald Shroy, while preventing his official prosecution, did provide a sense of resolution for the families of the victims. Despite the lack of a legal conclusion, the case could finally be put to rest, bringing a semblance of peace to those affected by the senseless murders.
